Best wind
Northeast trade wind, offshore from Sorobon/Lac Bay. Treat equipment failure and drift toward the outer bay as offshore-wind risks: https://bonaire.com/en/blog/lac-bay-windsurfing-kitesurfing-guide-bonaire/
Season
January-August is the locally published strongest/most consistent trade-wind period; conditions exist outside it but are generally lighter: https://bonaire.com/en/blog/lac-bay-windsurfing-kitesurfing-guide-bonaire/
Water
Reef-sheltered, generally flat lagoon, typically about 0.7-1.2 m deep, with protected seagrass and mangrove habitat: https://bonaire.com/en/blog/lac-bay-windsurfing-kitesurfing-guide-bonaire/
Experience
Lessons are available and the flat lagoon is used by learners, but hydrofoil use is provisionally condoned rather than fully zoned and the 0.7-1.2 m lagoon is too shallow for many foil masts. Confirm the current STINAPA zone before riding: https://stinapabonaire.org/rules-and-regulations/kite-and-windsurfing/ https://bonaire.com/en/blog/lac-bay-windsurfing-kitesurfing-guide-bonaire/
Hazards
Very shallow water can put a foil mast into the bottom; protect seagrass, mangroves and reef habitat. STINAPA says foiling is normally in dark-blue water at least 75 m offshore and windsurf foiling in Lac is only currently condoned pending zoning. Watch windsurfers, swimmers, divers, fishers and boats; downwinders require written permission, and offshore wind raises self-rescue risk: https://stinapabonaire.org/rules-and-regulations/kite-and-windsurfing/ https://bonaire.com/en/blog/lac-bay-windsurfing-kitesurfing-guide-bonaire/
Parking & access
The current local guide reports free unpaved parking directly at Sorobon Beach. A Bonaire Nature Fee is required for water recreation; recheck the current fee and proof requirements before arrival: https://bonaire.com/en/blog/lac-bay-windsurfing-kitesurfing-guide-bonaire/
“On the whole island of Bonaire, this is really one of the few – if not the only – Wingfoil spots. Paradise island Bonaire, the best winds are basically all Requested-field batch 14 verified 2026-08-01: No reliable exact surf report or accessible live camera was found. Official rules take priority over tourism copy if current zoning differs.”
