“Atins is a remote fishing village at the entrance to Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, in the delta of the Preguiças river. Between the Atlantic, the river and the dunes, kilometre-long flat-water zones form from sandbanks and lagoons. The trade wind blows steadily from east to southeast from June to January, side-onshore, typically 15–25 knots and all day long. It blows strongest and most reliably from August/October to mid-December. A quirk of the place: an impermeable rock layer sits beneath”
