Best wind
SW, W and NW are preferred; S and N can also work. Land influence makes the wind gustier and often lighter than the coast, so use only a launch sector that remains returnable and avoid drifting toward harbor approaches: https://ophetwater.nl/wingen/wingfoil-spot-huizen
Season
No reliable source establishes a best wingfoil month window. The local beach and surf community operate through the year, but warm months bring swimmers, events and the current risk of blue-green algae; on 2026-07-09 the municipality strongly advised against entering the water at Gooierhoofd and Zomerkade, so recheck before every visit: https://www.huizen.nl/zomerkade https://www.huizen.nl/blauwalg-geconstateerd
Water
Tide-free Gooimeer freshwater, usually flat to lightly choppy with a stable managed level. The official beach profile records a gently sloping sandy swim zone about 0.75 m deep at its buoy line; farther out, shoals and the marked navigation system make depth nonuniform: https://ophetwater.nl/wingen/wingfoil-spot-huizen https://register.zwemwater.nl/zwr/api/files/6039785 https://www.jachthavenhuizen.nl/
Experience
Beginner through advanced in suitable conditions at the Zomerkade/Gooierhoofd surf shore. Current exact wing guidance describes an easy shallow beach entry and flat-to-light-chop water, while the official swim profile confirms a gently sloping sand bottom; beginners still need separation from the buoyed swim zones: https://ophetwater.nl/wingen/wingfoil-spot-huizen https://register.zwemwater.nl/zwr/api/files/6039785
Hazards
Buoyed swim areas, swimmers and beach events, a pier/other fixed structures in the swim profile, nearshore foil shallows, gusty land-affected wind, other windsurfers/wingfoilers, harbor and marked navigation traffic, and current water-quality advisories are material. On 2026-07-09 the municipality strongly advised no water contact because of blue-green algae; verify that status has been lifted before launching: https://register.zwemwater.nl/zwr/api/files/6039785 https://ophetwater.nl/wingen/wingfoil-spot-huizen https://www.jachthavenhuizen.nl/ https://www.huizen.nl/blauwalg-geconstateerd
Parking & access
The municipality completed a 183-space Gooierhoofd lot with three accessible spaces near the beach in May 2026 and directs recreational visitors there; access is from Zuiderzee/Delta/Zomerkade. Do not park on the promenade or infer overnight rights, and follow the redesigned one-way/marked-space layout: https://www.huizen.nl/gooierhoofd
“is another beautiful town at the lake of Gooimeer in The Netherlands. You can set up and launch from strand zomerkade. 2026-08-02 requested-field verification: Current exact wing, municipal access, official swim-profile and municipal water-quality sources establish the Zomerkade launch, 2026 183-space lot, wind sectors, shallow swim margin, fixed/swim/traffic hazards and active algae advisory. The harbor camera is labeled nearby; surf report remains unverified.”
