Season
Access season is February-October on Wed/Sat/Sun (except the third Wednesday); the reservoir is closed November-January and water-contact closures can occur: https://www.sandiego.gov/reservoirs-lakes/hodges-reservoir https://www.sandiego.gov/sites/default/files/2025-08/hodges-reservoir-and-dam-faq.pdf

Water-contact access can close for bacteria; quagga inspection is mandatory. Add fishermen/boats, submerged trees/rocks, changing water level, gusty wind shadow and an operating schedule that may leave no rescue after sunset.
