Strong tide, changing wind and shallow bay margins; do not continue past the Third Avenue lot, where the favorable drift-to-finish geometry ends. Two documented equipment-test sessions reached 50–60 mph gusts, conditions requiring expert strong-wind control, secure gear and a robust rescue plan. 'Beginner' assumes independent starts and self-rescue competence in far milder conditions.

Reported working parameters were the upper half of the tide and more than 20 mph wind, on either ebb or flood. Progression Project forum first-hand Bay Area guidance independently describes Coyote Point to Third Avenue as a comparatively beginner-oriented run in roughly 15–20 wind, while strictly warning riders not to pass the Third Avenue lot because the favorable drift-to-finish geometry ends there. Progression Project forum follow-up from the same rider describes Coyote Point to Third Avenue as unusually approachable only when equipment, starts and conditions align. The favorable example was about 20 knots just after high tide; an earlier first attempt used roughly 25 mph wind and more than six miles of fetch.
