“The Geiseltalsee near Mücheln in the Saalekreis is one of Germany's largest man-made lakes – a flooded lignite open-pit mine with around 8.4 km² of water and about 41 km of shoreline, fully filled in 2011. The open, sparsely wooded mining landscape and the freshly formed shore give the wind few obstacles, so it runs in surprisingly steadily from west to southwest across the wide surface. What does the Geiseltalsee offer surfers? A large, calm area with clear visibility and well-equipped marinas ”
