conditions & access

Season

Late-March trip discussion; condition-dependent

Water

Middle foil peak plus a highly technical SUP-downwind launch when rising ground swell crosses trade swell

Experience

Advanced for the middle prone peak; expert for SUP-downwind launches in large crossed swell

Hazards

Reef/foil depth, resort-lineup etiquette and crossed ground/trade swell. A forum observer saw a near foil strike during a rising 8 ft SUP-DW launch and one expert taking about 30 minutes to get away.

Parking & access

Confirm current resort/coastal-access and landing arrangements before launching; the post does not provide a public shuttle or exit.

“Progression Project forum recent-visitor guidance names Turtle Bay West as a shore-run launch for riders already capable of that format. The east/pool side is separately discouraged because of numerous shallow areas. Progression Project forum first-hand guidance reports a fun empty middle peak at Turtle Bay. A later visitor observed three expert SUP downwinders launching in a rising 8 ft swell where ground swell and trade swell crossed; one near-miss with a loose foil and a roughly 30-minute start underline the launch's difficulty.”
