“Eckernförde lies in a long bay open to the northeast – a long town beach, short distances, many schools. The Baltic here is tide-free, so no tidal window, flat to gentle waves near shore. Wind from north and northwest brings clean conditions straight into the bay. An advantage in easterly wind: the narrow bay amplifies the wind, so in Eckernförde Bay you often get one wind force more than along the rest of the Baltic coast – the jet effect. In sideshore conditions the most wind-driven swell runs”
